Position: Accountant Officer
Location: Dar Es Salaam

Reports to: Finance Manager/Chief Accountant
Employment Type: Contract

Job Purpose:
The Accountant Officer is responsible for managing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and standards, and providing accurate financial information to support decision-making processes. The Accountant Officer will maintain financial records, prepare financial reports, and ensure the efficient management of financial resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Management and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records of all transactions.
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
    • Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
    • Monitor expenditure against budgets and provide variance analysis.
    • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and standards, including donor requirements.
  2. Accounting and Bookkeeping:
    • Process accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payments and collections.
    • Record and reconcile bank statements and petty cash transactions.
    • Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate coding of all financial transactions.
    • Conduct regular financial reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  3. Payroll Management:
    • Prepare and process payroll, including the calculation of salaries, deductions, and benefits.
    • Ensure compliance with local labor laws and tax regulations.
    • Maintain accurate records of employee earnings and deductions.
  1. Compliance and Audit:
    • Assist in the preparation for internal and external audits.
    • Ensure that all financial transactions comply with organizational policies and donor requirements.
    • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.
  2. Financial Analysis and Support:
    • Provide financial analysis to support program planning and decision-making.
    • Collaborate with program managers to ensure financial alignment with program objectives.
    • Provide financial advice and support to management and staff as needed.
  3. Grant Management:
    • Assist in the financial management of grants, including budgeting, tracking, and reporting.
    • Ensure compliance with donor requirements and grant agreements.
    • Prepare financial reports for donors as required.
  4. Capacity Building and Training:
    • Provide training and support to staff on financial policies and procedures.
    • Develop and implement financial training programs to improve financial literacy within the organization.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional accounting certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CMA) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial management, and grant compliance.
  • Experience with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Knowledge of local tax laws and regulations.
  • Experience working with international donors and familiarity with donor regulations is highly recommended to apply.
