Position: Accountant Officer

Job Purpose:
The Accountant Officer is responsible for managing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and standards, and providing accurate financial information to support decision-making processes. The Accountant Officer will maintain financial records, prepare financial reports, and ensure the efficient management of financial resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Management and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records of all transactions.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor expenditure against budgets and provide variance analysis.
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and standards, including donor requirements.
- Accounting and Bookkeeping:
- Process accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payments and collections.
- Record and reconcile bank statements and petty cash transactions.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate coding of all financial transactions.
- Conduct regular financial reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
- Payroll Management:
- Prepare and process payroll, including the calculation of salaries, deductions, and benefits.
- Ensure compliance with local labor laws and tax regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of employee earnings and deductions.
- Compliance and Audit:
- Assist in the preparation for internal and external audits.
- Ensure that all financial transactions comply with organizational policies and donor requirements.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.
- Financial Analysis and Support:
- Provide financial analysis to support program planning and decision-making.
- Collaborate with program managers to ensure financial alignment with program objectives.
- Provide financial advice and support to management and staff as needed.
- Grant Management:
- Assist in the financial management of grants, including budgeting, tracking, and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with donor requirements and grant agreements.
- Prepare financial reports for donors as required.
- Capacity Building and Training:
- Provide training and support to staff on financial policies and procedures.
- Develop and implement financial training programs to improve financial literacy within the organization.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional accounting certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CMA) is preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting, preferably in the non-profit sector.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial management, and grant compliance.
- Experience with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Knowledge of local tax laws and regulations.
- Experience working with international donors and familiarity with donor regulations is highly recommended to apply.
