Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Medical Doctor In-Charge to lead the day-to-day operations of one of the 10 district hospitals under Saifee Hospital Zanzibar Limited. This role requires a strong clinical background with administrative acumen, providing an exciting opportunity to transform a government hospital by applying private sector principles.

The position involves overseeing clinical and operational functions in collaboration with a dedicated hospital management team, including a Health Systems Manager and Matron/Patron. The role also includes active patient care and contributions to policy and decision-making for hospital improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

• Provide high-quality medical care to patients in your area of specialization (Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Family Medicine, or Emergency Medicine).
• Supervise junior medical staff and ensure clinical excellence.
• Conduct daily rounds to assess and address patient needs.
• Ensure compliance with medical standards, protocols, and safety measures.

Administrative Duties

• Oversee daily operations of the hospital in collaboration with the Health Systems Manager and Matron/Patron.
• Ensure optimal resource utilization, including staffing, supplies, and equipment.
• Implement and monitor quality improvement initiatives and hospital policies.
• Facilitate effective communication between hospital staff and Saifee Hospital Zanzibar Limited’s leadership.
• Represent the hospital in community and governmental engagements.

Strategic Leadership

• Drive transformation by implementing private sector efficiency in hospital operations.
• Guide policy development and decision-making to improve service delivery.
• Train and mentor staff to build capacity within the hospital.
• Address challenges in staffing, HR discipline, and service gaps in collaboration with the management team.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) with active registration/license to practice.
• Specialist qualification in one of the following fields: Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Family Medicine, or Emergency Medicine.
• Experience in hospital management or healthcare administration (preferred).
• Strong clinical background with at least 5 years of medical practice.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience in working with public-private partnerships or hospital transformations (an advantage).
